Working with the United States

The timezone is the thing worth being honest about. Working from Central European Time means the overlap with the US East Coast is the American morning, and with the West Coast it is narrow. That suits engagements built on decisions and written architecture, and suits an engagement built on being in every standup much less well.

Which is the same split that decides whether fractional is right at all: if what is missing is someone to make the expensive calls and write them down, the hours work. If what is missing is a manager, hire one locally.

The practical answers

Overlap
CET — the US East Coast morning
Shape
One to two days a week, three months minimum
Best fit
Decision-shaped work rather than day-to-day management

Engagements available in the United States

Engagement Owns Commitment Fits
Fractional CTO Technical direction 1–2 days/week · 3-month min Founders alone on the technical calls
Fractional VP of Engineering Delivery and the team 1–2 days/week · 3-month min Team outgrew ad-hoc coordination
Advisory retainer Judgement, not the team A few hours a month You have leaders, want them checked
Hands-on consulting Execution Scoped per project One thing has to get built

All four run at the same shape — one to two days a week, three months minimum. The detail of each, and what you are left holding afterwards, is on the advisory page.

The work behind it

Eleven years building and leading engineering teams, including KLM’s airport operations platform and the Single Digital Gateway programme used by every Dutch municipality, province and water authority. Deciding between the first two engagements is its own question — fractional CTO versus a full-time VP of Engineering works through it.

Can a US startup hire a Europe-based fractional CTO?

Yes, with the timezone understood: working from Central European Time, the reliable overlap is the US East Coast morning. Engagements built around architecture and decisions work well on those hours; engagements that need someone in every standup do not.

What does Dario Mory charge US clients?

There is no single published rate, because a number that is right for a US startup is not right for a team in central Europe. Ask at dario@mory.dev for one for your situation.
